With the beginning of each year, I set an intention to go to at least three new places that year. It can be a nearby town I’ve been meaning to check out or it can be a country I’ve never been to - both count. I normally blow past my intention of three but what it causes me to do is to never stop exploring. Throughout my many explorations, there are a few places I come back to time and time again.
2020 brings about many changes for me personally - welcoming my first baby into this world, my husband transitioning out of the military, moving house (again - because the Soul Circus team LOVES moving), and delivering the 5th and best year of Soul Circus to date.
With all these changes comes a heightened desire to ground myself in nature. To slow my pace down and enjoy Mother Earth as she intended it - all the while staying at a lovely hotel with :fingers crossed: a sauna.
Here are a few places I have my eye on for 2020 adventures:
I didn’t grow up a mountain person and it wasn’t until I moved to Europe that I was fortunate enough to make a yearly trip to the Austrian Alps. It was hard not to fall in love with the Alps, especially at Christmas time. Between the magical snowfall, cozy fireplaces, copious amounts of delicious local wines, and readily available spas and saunas, Austria quickly one of my favorite places. Having been back in the US for nearly two years now, I’m overdue for some mountain air.
Here’s a few wellness hotels I’ve been eyeing up lately:
Forsthofgut Naturhotel | Leogang, Austria - Awarded the “Best Wellness Hotel Spa in Austria” in 2016, Forsthofgut Naturhotel is a family friendly hotel that brings the surrounding nature into every element. From the stunning Alpine views to the farm to table kitchen to its infamous Waldspa - Forsthofgut Naturhotel looks to combine all the things I’m dying for right now.
Hotel Sepp | Maria Alm, Austria - This adults only hotel is new to the scene and defines itself as “Luxury with a Twist.” And with a rooftop Airstream sauna, they’re not lying when they say “with a twist.” Hotel Sepp looks like the perfect place to get out and DO something - hike, cycle, ski, golf, whatever your heart desires. The ability to connect with the outside at any time of the year is what I love about Hotel Sepp.
Folly Beach, South Carolina, USA
I’ve been going to Folly Beach since my uni days and something keeps drawing me back. The relaxed atmosphere, wide open beaches with nature parks bookending the island, the local restaurants all give off a true #beachlife vibe. Folly Beach is about 20 minutes away from downtown Charleston, giving you the best of both worlds - the history, shopping, and reinvigorated Southern restaurants of Charleston and the nature, slow paced life of Folly Beach.
Camp Huron offers an authentic Folly Beach experience. Walk in the front door and see straight through to the marsh and harbor beyond. Start the day with coffee on the front porch, end it making music beneath the stars on the back deck. This is the best way to visit Folly.
Cornwall has always been on my bucket list but I never quite made it out there from London. I’m daydreaming of a cozy pub by the sea, dramatic coastlines, leisurely walks along the water watching surfers, and delicious, local food.
I’ve been eyeing up Watergate Bay Hotel for quite some time now and how could you not want to stay here?! I mean look at these rooms! Can’t you just see yourself soaking in that tub and taking in that view of the ocean? HEAVEN! And bless that they’re family friendly given the fact that we’ll have a 6 month old in tow next time we visit the UK.
